New video shows teardown of the not-yet-released Motorola Razr

The Motorola Razr isn’t officially out yet, but it looks like some people have gotten their hands on the new phone a little early. In fact, YouTube channel PBKreviews has posted a teardown video of the Razr, showing how difficult it will be to repair.

The video shows that to get into the device, you’ll need to be dedicated. The reviewer managed to do so by heating the glue around the edges and prying it open. There are then a number of screws that you’ll have to unscrew if you want to get further into the phone.

As can be seen in the video, the device actually has two batteries, split between the two halves of it. The video also shows that all of the chips and parts are more or less housed in the bottom half of the phone, along with one of the batteries. Also on the bottom half of the device is the fingerprint scanner and USB-C port.

On the top of the phone, you’ll find the other battery, along with the components for the smaller front-facing camera, and the components for the front- and rear-facing cameras.

The reviewer in this video doesn’t disassemble the hinge of the phone, but does show off the ultra-flexible display. The display is shown to be extremely thin, and could be easily broken once removed from the phone itself. It seems as though the phone does a good job of keeping the display in place during use.

Flexible phones in general are poised to become a whole lot more popular over the next few years. Samsung launched the first mainstream device in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and while the launch of that phone was a little rocky, it’s likely Samsung (and the rest of the industry) learned a lot from that saga. Hopefully, the Motorola Razr will avoid many of the issues around quality control that the original Samsung Galaxy Fold ran into.

The Motorola Razr is now available for pre-order at $1,500. The device is a revival of the classic Motorola Razr, and is available straight from Verizon or from the Motorola website.
