The top LG smartphones you need to know about

Share

While its Android phones may not be as popular as the likes of Samsung, LG continues to kick out quality phones year after year. The lineup has gotten a little muddy with the relatively fast iteration and release of interim models between major launches, but that introduces interesting options at a variety of prices. Right now the best LG phone you can get is the V60, but if you have a more restrictive budget or different needs there are other options out there we recommend.

If you want LG’s latest and greatest, you get the newest phone: the LG V60. You get a massive screen and battery that follow industry trends, plus a solid spec sheet and a 3.5 mm headphone jack — all for a very attractive price. Plus, depending where you buy it, you may get a Dual Screen accessory included.

LG G8X

LG really didn’t make big splashes with the G8X, and now that the V60 is out it has kind of lost its place in the world. Still, it offers an interesting niche option for anyone who wants to try out the Dual Screen attachment, but doesn’t want to spend the hundreds extra on the V60.

LG G8

The G8 has been fully replaced by now in LG’s lineup, but it still offers great value considering its deep price cuts. It has last-generation specs, and the cameras are dated, but the screen and hardware still feel modern. Plus, like LG’s other phones it still offers a 3.5 mm headphone jack with a high-quality DAC.

LG G7

The G7 is obviously showing its age now, but deep discounts have knocked it into the territory of super-budget phones. And for that money you can get hardware, a display and specs that in most respects outperform those budget devices. Just don’t expect many more software updates going forward.

When it comes time to really pinch the pennies, the Stylo 5 is your best choice if you want an LG handset but have to seriously watch how much money you’re spending. For $200, the Stylo 4 delivers a huge 6.2-inch Full HD display, single 13-megapixel rear camera, a large 3500mAh battery with USB-C charging, and an included stylus that allows you to doodle and draw to your heart’s content.

Which LG phone is right for you?

If money isn’t an object and you want the best LG phone money can buy, you’ll want to go for the LG V60. It’s tough to go wrong getting the latest, and LG has done a good job of simply adding to the experience with each new phone. You’re getting a huge screen, equally huge battery and lots of great specs for a solid discount off of what Samsung is charging for its competing devices.

But not everyone can spend that much on a phone; if your budget is lower, there are other LG phones that you can buy — and history shows us that as LG phones age they quickly drop in price. A last-generation LG G8 is a solid buy at $500, for example, or if you need to save a ton there’s the LG Stylo 5.
