Early Memorial Day Sale: LG and HP monitors in the bargain bin

Share

On the lookout for a new monitor for your home office? Hoping to pick one on the cheap in the Memorial Day sales? Well, you’re in luck. We’ve spotted three must-have desktop monitors that are already on sale — the HP 24FWA, HP 27ER, and LG 27UL600-W — and with prices starting from as low as $170, there’s an option for every budget.

24-inch HP 24FWA Monitor (Full HD) — $170, was $200

The HP 24FWA monitor is the most affordable option on our list, but by no means does it look or feel cheap. It doesn’t suffer from the usual problems faced by some budget-friendly options, such as a bulky chassis or poor color output, making this a great and stylish option for any home office. It’s the smallest screen size on our list at 24 inches, so it’s ideal for most setups as it’s neither too compact nor too wide, and it renders images in standard 1,920 x 1,080 resolution for high-definition picture quality.

The 24FWA uses an IPS display, which expands its viewing angles for 180-degree coverage and has far better color accuracy than its VA counterpart. This way, you don’t have to worry about colors being washed out whenever you view the monitor from anywhere not directly in front of it, giving you full view over your work wherever you’re seated. If your computer setup is positioned against direct sunlight or an overhead light, the 24FWA is also designed to work even in environments with harsh glare issues. Additionally, the monitor can pump out 300 cd/m² of brightness, so it won’t struggle to light up in brighter settings.

Casual gaming is also benefited by a short five millisecond response time for near-instant mouse-to-monitor input and minimal lag. Unfortunately, the accompanying 60Hz refresh rate isn’t anything to write home about, but it meets industry standards and shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. The monitor has one HDMI and VGA port each, as well as its own built-in speakers, so the 24-inch HP 24FWA monitor has all the essentials you would need without being extravagantly priced. If you’re interested, you can check it out on Best Buy where it’s on sale for $170 from its retail price of $200.

27-inch HP 27ER Monitor (Full HD) — $210, was $250

If you’re willing to spend a little extra from the HP 24FWA, then the HP 27ER should be right up your alley. It features a modern silver design with paper-thin bezels that would transform any run-of-the-mill computer setup into a professional workstation, with enough style to rival some higher-end monitors. It has a 27-inch screen that pumps out images in Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 resolution without compromising on picture quality, avoiding common upsizing issues such as pixelation.

Like the 24FWA, the 27ER also uses an IPS display. With this, you get excellent color accuracy in exchange for deeper contrasts. The monitor is only capable of 250 cd/m² of brightness though, so it might struggle a bit in well-lit environments. As long as you stick to somewhat darker environments, you shouldn’t have to worry about the visual output being a problem. Additionally, the IPS display allows you to view the screen from every possible angle without the visuals suffering from desaturation or discoloration.

For gamers and other users who rely on minimal input lag for their work, the 27ER’s shortest response time is seven milliseconds. It isn’t as fast as the 24FWA’s five milliseconds, but with the industry standard being 10 milliseconds, it still outpaces most other monitors of the same size. The 60Hz refresh rate also isn’t anything fancy, but it gets the job done for most tasks outside gaming. It doesn’t have its own pair of speakers though. Instead, it has an additional HDMI port, making for a total of two HDMI inputs with a VGA input. If you’re interested, you can find the 27-inch HP 27ER monitor on Best Buy where it’s discounted at $210 from its retail price of $250.

27-inch LG 27UL600-W Monitor (4K Ultra HD) — $380, was $430

Last but not least is the 27-inch LG 27UL600-W monitor to round out our list. It’s a bit of a price jump from the previous two options, but considering what it offers, we can confidently tell you that it’s worth every penny. In terms of resolution, it skips past QHD and goes straight for 4K Ultra HD 3,840 x 2,160 resolution for exceptional picture quality that outclasses even some televisions.

The 27UL600-W utilizes an anti-glare IPS panel display for consistent viewing from every angle, allowing you to position yourself however you need or like. Visual accuracy isn’t hindered by a dim monitor either. With a brightness level capable of delivering 350 cd/m², colors are always intensely vibrant with little to no grayness for you to worry about.

Now, while all this is well and good, where the LG 27UL600-W stands out is in its built-in HDR and AMD FreeSync technologies. With support for HDR formats, you can enjoy movies, games, and other videos in sharp and vivid detail, even in the dark. The AMD FreeSync also enhances your gaming and movie-watching experience by automatically synchronizing to your existing AMD graphics card to eliminate screen tearing and visual lag. Unfortunately, if you don’t use an AMD graphics card, you won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of FreeSync, but this shouldn’t be a major issue.

It has a low five-second response time with a nondescript refresh rate of 60Hz for optimal gaming at a casual level. It also has two HDMI inputs but no VGA ports for connectivity. And lastly, while the 27UL600-W doesn’t have speakers, it does have a headphone jack for private listening at your convenience. If you want an excellent 4K monitor that isn’t too bank-breaking, you can check out the 27-inch LG 27UL600-W on Best Buy where it’s discounted at $380 from $430.
