Fitbit, Garmin, and Suunto fitness smartwatches discounted for Memorial Day

Share

Since you’ve got plenty of time on your hands, now’s your chance to start working on your fitness. Because you can’t really go to the gym and hire a personal trainer, having a fitness smartwatch is your best next option. Luckily, you don’t have to spend too much money on one, as we’ve found plenty of sport smartwatch deals at Amazon and REI’s Anniversary Sale. Get the Fitbit Versa Lite, Garmin Forerunner 45S, Suunto 3, Suunto 5, and Garmin Fenix 6S today for as little as $145. And here are more Memorial Day sales that might interest you.

Fitbit Versa Lite — $144, was $160

The Fitbit Versa Lite is virtually identical to its predecessor, the Fitbit Versa. The only difference is, as its name suggests, it is slightly anemic when it comes to features. Its 1.3-inch LCD display looks crisp and bright and it has one button on the right side for navigation that’s very easy to use. At the back, there is a heart rate monitor and inside it is an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, and an SPO2 sensor.

This watch doesn’t skimp on its wellness features, even though this is the more affordable version of the Fitbit Versa. There are, however, a few omissions that might prove to be a deal-breaker for many people. With this watch, you can track your exercises, heart rate, steps, sleep, and whether you’re moving each hour. What’s missing is an altimeter to measure elevation, so you won’t be able to determine the number of steps you’ve climbed, and a gyroscope, so you can’t keep tabs on the number of laps you’ve made in the pool. It’s also lacking onboard music storage so you can’t store any MP3s in it. The Fitbit Versa Lite usually comes with a $160 price tag, but you can get it on Amazon today for $16 less — paying just $144 for it.

Garmin Forerunner 45S — $150, was $200

The Forerunner 45S is among Garmin’s most affordable entry-level running smartwatches. Despite its budget-friendly price (it’s currently on sale at REI for just $150 instead of the usual $200), it’s capable of tracking all the metrics a new runner needs and more. It boasts a stylish and rugged circular design, accurate GPS tracking, and an easy-to-operate 5-button navigation.

This fitness tracker flaunts a 1.04-inch color display (quite rare for the price) with a resolution of 208 x 208 pixels. All metrics displayed appear sharp and are color-coded for clarity. Its five-button navigation is significantly more user-friendly than the four buttons on the Forerunner 35, its predecessor. Since this is an entry-level sports watch, it is geared toward casual runners who want to improve their fitness, and therefore doesn’t go overboard with way too much data and numbers. It tracks distance, pace, speed, cadence, calories burned, and heart rate, as well as V02 max calculation. It’s also equipped with Garmin’s latest heart rate sensor and built-in GPS with GPS, Glonass and Galileo support. Get the Garmin Forerunner 45S today for just $150 at REI.

Suunto 3 — $182, was $229

The Suunto 3 takes fitness tracking to the next level. Instead of merely counting your steps and tracking your other athletic pursuits like most sports smartwatches, this one can concoct a workout plan just for you via the fantastic Adaptive Training Guidance. It also boasts a sleek and stylish design and a comprehensive companion app. Best of all, it comes at a very reasonable price. You can get the Suunto 3 today for just $182 at Amazon, a cool $47 off its normal retail price of $229.

Suunto clearly put effort into making this watch not only function as a fitness tracker but also look fashionable. On top of looking gorgeous, the Suunto 3 sits comfortably on your wrist without feeling too bulky or cumbersome. It comes with five physical buttons that are very easy to navigate. To set itself apart from the crowded fitness tracker field, Suunto decided to outfit this smartwatch with a feature called Adaptive Training Guidance. Instead of just spitting out data for users to comprehend on their own, Adaptive Training Guidance is designed to analyze the numbers for you, developing weekly training plans based entirely on the gathered activity levels. For example, after the watch tracks and logs the data of your very first run, it will develop a weekly training plan based on both the objective stats you’ve laid down and how difficult you told the watch it felt. Later on, it will create a schedule for the rest of the week, including rest days, and when you needed to work out again, all presented in a clear graphic that’s easy to comprehend. Get the Suunto 3 today at Amazon for only $182.

Suunto 5 — $230, was $329

The Suunto 5 wows with its feature list and screams durability just like most of Suunto’s offerings. It’s got a rugged and sturdy casing, tons of helpful fitness training plans, and tremendous battery life. However, we just can’t get behind how uncomfortable and painful its strap gets with prolonged wear (the Suunto 3 costs less but is extremely comfortable) and how flimsy its glass covering is. Right now, this reasonably priced multisport smartwatch is on sale at REI for $230 instead of $329 — a huge $99 worth of savings.

This smartwatch’s stainless steel bezel and glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate casing are undeniably sturdy. You don’t have to worry even if you smash it on a rock as we’re 100% sure it can handle the impact. However, the glass covering the display scratches easily and further dims the display. The non-touch watch screen is not only low resolution (218 x 218) but also suffers from a dim backlight that’s tough to read in sunlight. Even the five-button control, which was so easy to learn on the Suunto 3, is less intuitive here. At least it aces it in terms of wellness features. It supports more than 80 activities, using GPS data to track time, distance, pace, elevation, and ascent/descent. It also automatically counts your daily steps and calories, as well as stress and recovery throughout the day and sleep tracking. Finally, this watch offers Adaptive Training Guidance, which creates personalized training plans to help improve your fitness and automatically adapts them to your actual activities. Get the Suunto 5 today at REI for the discounted price of $230.

Garmin Fenix 6S — $450, was $600

The “S” in Garmin’s Fenix 6S stands for small. At a relatively tiny 42mm (the Fenix 6X Sapphire is enormous at 51mm), this multisport smartwatch is marketed mostly to women. Despite being pint-sized, the Garmin Fenix 6S is still outfitted with everything that you’d come to expect in a top-of-the-line Fenix wearable. It’s got an overabundance of features and sensors, although, at $450 (down from $600 at REI), its lack of a touchscreen is quite questionable.

The Fenix 6S has a 1.2-inch transflective display with a 240 x 240-pixel resolution. Even though it isn’t a touch display, the five-button navigation system is pretty easy to master, plus it’s extremely power-efficient. This smartwatch can last up to nine days in smartwatch mode, up to 25 hours in GPS mode, up to 20 days in expedition GPS activity mode, and up to 34 days in battery saver watch mode. It’s capable of wrist heart rate tracking, has built-in activity profiles, VO2 max estimate, Pulse Ox sensing blood oxygen saturation for sleep monitoring, and altitude acclimation. Performance data includes training load balance, training status, and running and cycling dynamics. There are satellite navigation and tracking functions combined with a three-axis compass, gyroscope, and a barometric altimeter that gives you the confidence to traverse on and off the beaten path, and support of multiple global navigation satellite system (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo) to track in more challenging environments. Get the Garmin Fenix 6S today for $450 at REI.
