A shift in development.

What you need to know

  • Fortnite has officially shed its Early Access label.
  • The company will slow development on its Save the World mode.
  • Save the World will not be a free-to-play title, and will remain a premium game.

Fortnite has taken the world by storm in the three years that since its launch, and to celebrate its upcoming third anniversary, Epic Games has announced that the game would be getting rid of its Early Access label, and also slowing down development of its Save the World mode.

In a blog post made earlier on Tuesday, Epic Games announced the move, saying that Save the World mode would remain a premium experience rather than move to free-to-play, which is something that many thought would happen at some point.

“Today we’re bringing Save the World out of Early Access and have decided that it will remain a premium experience rather than going free-to-play,” the company said in its statement. Epic Games also announced that development of new content would slow down with the official release of Save the World, although players of the game will still have things to look forward to.

According to Epic Games, all paid Founders – buyers of the game at its full price – of Fortnite will have their Founder’s Packs upgraded, and Ultimate Edition owners will be granted the new Metal Team Leader Pack and 8,000 V-Bucks. Epic Games also announced the latest big feature to the Save the World mode in the form of Ventures. Ventures is a new, season-long opportunity for players to earn seasonal experience and rewards.
