Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue.

What you need to know

  • Some Motorola Edge+ owners are reporting serious display issues.
  • While most users are seeing purple spots on the display, a few are reporting green tints as well.
  • Motorola has rolled out a software update to ‘fix’ the issue, but a replacement might be required in some cases.

Motorola’s Edge+, which launched in April this year, is the company’s most ambitious phone in a long time. It boasts flagship-grade specs, great software, and a beautiful 90Hz waterfall display. Just a month after its launch, however, some users started complaining of a serious display issue on the phone.

Initially, users reported purple spots that would appear on the display when used for long periods of time. Roughly a week later, some Edge+ users started complaining of a green tint, similar to the display issues that plagued the OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

To fix these issues, Motorola rolled out a software update for the Edge+ last week (via Droid Life). While some users say that the update fixed the display issues for them, a few others are still seeing the issues on their phones. In some cases, the display issues were fixed temporarily after installing the latest update, but have now started reappearing.

Motorola says the update may not be effective in cases where the “smudging” is too advanced to be resolved in this way. If you own a Motorola Edge+ and continue to see purple spots or a green tint on the phone’s display after installing the latest update, you should contact Verizon to get it exchanged. Even if your phone doesn’t exhibit these issues currently, you should install the latest update as it can apparently also prevent the problems from occurring.
